What it does
Interactive W-shape / HSS beam design aid with a draggable elevation free-body diagram (drag the span ends, supports, and loads; double-click to add point loads; scroll-zoom and wheel-pan), a live steel cross-section view, and shear / bending / weak-axis-moment / deflection diagrams drawn in line with the FBD against dashed capacity lines. Checks factored strong-axis bending with a simplified Lp/Lr lateral-torsional-buckling curve driven by the unbraced length, web shear, out-of-plane (weak-axis) bending, indicative St-Venant torsion, biaxial interaction, and service deflection, with utilization percentages, an auto-size helper, and CSV/JSON/Print export.
What it does not do
Design-aid / screening only. Starter/sample section database is incomplete and must be verified. Internal forces use a direct-stiffness Euler-Bernoulli beam (simple, cantilever and continuous spans); strong-axis LTB is a simplified Lp/Lr curve with Cb=1; section classification, web buckling, bearing, holes/copes and vibration are not checked; weak-axis bending and torsion (warping ignored for open W-shapes) are indicative; biaxial interaction is a conservative linear screen.
No final CSA S16 compliance claim. Engineer review required for every output.
How to use it
Use for preliminary gravity beam sizing and review-package preparation. Confirm loads, bracing, section class, LTB, web shear, bearing, holes/copes, vibration, and current CISC section properties before design use.
