What it does

Designs/checks a bent plate (or angle-style plate) welded to the top flange of a steel beam supporting rooftop curb, duct closure, plenum/hood closure, or concrete curb edge loads. Interactive draggable cross-section canvas with a plan strip, three dimension reference modes (beam centreline / flange edge / weld line), curb load wizard (lightweight built-up, concrete γ·b·h self-weight, duct, custom line, custom area with tributary conversion), editable load factors, plate cantilever bending/shear/deflection on a unit strip, top-flange local-bending screen, simplified continuous/intermittent fillet weld check with prying-couple eccentricity, stiffener/gusset sizing with tributary load and suggested spacing, plate-spanning-between-stiffeners angle model using the upturn lip, global beam added-load and qualitative torsion screen, tiered stiffener recommendations, four built-in example presets, email-ready and calculation-sheet text generation, JSON export, project save, and Schematic Frame Designer handoff intake plus write-back.

What it does not do

Screening / design-aid only. Plate, flange, weld, and stiffener models are simplified unit-strip and prying-couple approximations - no plate FEM, no flange torsional restraint analysis, no LTB or combined member design of the supporting beam. Global beam screen reports added curb-load effects and a qualitative torsion risk only.

Mechanical equipment reactions on the plate are explicitly rejected and require dedicated framing. Starter W-section library only. Engineer review required for every output.

How to use it

Use for preliminary RFI/shop-drawing review of curb/closure support plates: confirm the projection beyond the flange edge (not from the beam centreline), the curb construction, the weld detail, and whether stiffeners are required. Verify all results and the supporting beam design independently before use.

Use Bent Plate Curb Support Designer in your own projects

Every tool ships inside the CoLateral desktop workspace, so a result can stay attached to the project, the drawing, and the review trail it belongs to instead of ending up in a loose spreadsheet.

Outputs are design aids and stay in draft until a qualified engineer reviews and approves them.
