What it does

Selects the lightest adequate prestressed hollow core floor/roof plank from a manufacturer load-table database (Stubbe's Precast 8"/203, 10"/254, 12"/305, and 14"/356 mm slabs, each with 3–11 of ½" 1860 MPa strands). The user enters a simple span (centre-to-centre) and the superimposed dead plus live/snow load in metric (m · kPa) or imperial (ft · psf); the tool linearly interpolates the tabulated total allowable superimposed uniformly distributed service load at that span for every thickness/strand pattern, compares it to the demand, ranks all passing options by thinnest plank then fewest strands, and recommends the most economical adequate plank. Shows a full options table (allowable, utilization, pass/fail) for the queried span, the selected slab's section properties (A, Iₓ, yᵦ, b_w, Sw, f_pu, f′c, f′ci) in both unit systems, and the complete manufacturer load table per thickness with the queried-span column highlighted and each cell coloured pass/fail against the demand.

Flags spans limited by strand development length and the 10" L/360 live-load deflection note. Runtime JSON database import, copy/JSON/print export. 0 in⁴) where the printed guide exponent appears to be a typo.

What it does not do

Preliminary selection aid only - a table lookup, not an independent flexural/shear/camber/deflection design. Load values are transcribed from the Stubbe's Precast guide and must be confirmed against current manufacturer tables; capacities are the total allowable SUPERIMPOSED service load and exclude slab self-weight. Linear interpolation between tabulated spans only - no extrapolation beyond published spans or strand patterns.

Vibration, fire rating, diaphragm action, openings, concentrated/line loads, bearing/connection detailing, topping composite action, and continuity are not evaluated. Engineer review required for every output.

How to use it

Use for preliminary hollow core plank selection and review-package preparation. Confirm the governing load values against the current Stubbe's Precast (or specified supplier) load tables, verify deflection/vibration/fire and bearing/connection details, and obtain engineer and supplier sign-off before any construction use.

Use Precast Hollow Core Plank Selector in your own projects

Every tool ships inside the CoLateral desktop workspace, so a result can stay attached to the project, the drawing, and the review trail it belongs to instead of ending up in a loose spreadsheet.

Outputs are design aids and stay in draft until a qualified engineer reviews and approves them.
