Pole, Sign & Caisson Foundation Designer

Design a light, flag, or sign pole in a drilled caisson - drag a sign panel to set the wind load and watch embedment, soil pressure, the concrete section, and anchor bolts update.

What it does

p=, or typed in - with an optional detailed NBCC 2020 static breakdown (p = Iw·q·Ce·Cg·Cp on the shaft and fixture). 72d), a frost-depth screen, and the maximum below-grade caisson moment. 3 one-way shear capacity check (Vc + Vs).

Doubles as a sign designer: mount a sign panel whose projected area A = width × height (dragged on a dedicated sign-face canvas) drives the wind load through to the embedment, the concrete section, and the anchorage. 3 Annex D steel tension/shear interaction, and lets the user add or remove anchor bolts directly on an anchorage plan as the sign grows. Includes a large interactive elevation (drag the pole height, caisson depth, and caisson width) showing the wind loads, the base shear and base moment, the two passive-pressure resistance wedges, and the rotation point; an interactive caisson cross-section where the section extents are dragged and vertical bars are added/removed directly on the canvas; a lateral soil-pressure diagram with a dashed allowable-capacity threshold that highlights soil overstress; and the P–M interaction diagram with the factored demand point - plus copy/CSV/JSON/print export.

What it does not do

Preliminary screening / design aid only. Allowable soil lateral-bearing and end-bearing are engineer-entered (no soil model); the wind pressure p is engineer-supplied and applied to both shaft and fixture; drag coefficients are judgment inputs. Assumes single uniform-gradient soil and rigid short-pier behaviour (flagged invalid when d/b > 10 - slender piles need a Broms / p-y analysis).

Confirm the IBC coefficients and constrained/nonconstrained condition against your code edition. P-M interaction and one-way shear use simplified single-layer assumptions and an idealised bar layout - confirm bars, development, ties, and biaxial effects separately. 3 Annex D).

Engineer review required for every output.

How to use it

Use for preliminary pole/caisson embedment sizing and review-package preparation. Confirm the soil lateral-bearing gradient, site wind pressure, drag coefficients, code edition, isolated-pole allowance, and the caisson concrete/anchorage design before any construction use.

Use Pole, Sign & Caisson Foundation Designer in your own projects

Every tool ships inside the CoLateral desktop workspace, so a result can stay attached to the project, the drawing, and the review trail it belongs to instead of ending up in a loose spreadsheet.

Outputs are design aids and stay in draft until a qualified engineer reviews and approves them.
